Google and DeepMind have joined forces to develop a chatbot to compete with OpenAI, which has forced the two AI research teams within Google’s parent company, Alphabet, to overcome years of rivalry and work together. This effort, known internally as Gemini, began in recent weeks after Google’s first attempt to build a chatbot (Bard) stumbled. A prominent researcher had previously raised concerns about Bard’s development to Alphabet’s CEO.
