The second generation of Belkin’s Wemo Smart Plug has a vulnerability that could be used by a threat actor to execute arbitrary commands remotely.
The problem lies in a feature that makes it possible to rename the smart plug to a more FriendlyName.
The default name assigned is Wemo mini 6E9.
In the absence of a fix, users of the Wemo Mini Smart Plug 2 are recommended to avoid exposing them directly to the internet and ensure that appropriate segmentation measures are implemented if they have been deployed in sensitive networks.
Wemo Remote Control offers convenient remote control.
It allows users to remotely control their electronic devices using an app installed on a smartphone or tablet.
However, this solution to a buffer overflow vulnerability found in the second generation version of Belkins’ Wemo does not solve the problem.
