PC Shipments Decline Sharply in Last Quarter
The PC market had a rough first quarter in 2023, with worldwide shipments of desktops and laptops suffering a drop of around 30 percent compared to the same quarter in 2022. Apple was particularly hard hit with a drop in shipments of 40.5 to 45.5 percent and a decrease of one to two percentage points in market share. This was due to the end of the surge in demand for computers due to the pandemic and economic uncertainty caused by interest rate rises. The market is expected to pick up in the second half of 2023 and 2024, though this is dependent on the economy recovering.
