Operation ChattyGoblin: Hackers Targeting Gambling Firms via Chat

A gambling company in the Philippines has been hit by a China-aligned threat actor.

According to cybersecurity firm ESET, this is part of a campaign that has been going on since October 2021.

ESET also notes that India- and Pakistan-linked threat actors Donot Team and SideWinder have been spying on South Asian gambling companies under the name Operation Chatty Goblin.

Also in the APT Activity Report Q4 2022-Q1 2023, ESET reports on the number of attacks it’s seen from Indian- and Chinese-backed threat actors.

These include lures using Pegasus-themed lures and other decoy documents to target government institutions in India and across the South Asia as well as commercial enterprises in the United States
