New Zealand’s bold plan to create a smoke-free generation is up in smoke, thanks to the country’s new right-wing government. The move, which was inspired by similar policies in the UK, was set to prevent anyone born after 2009 from purchasing tobacco products. But the new government has decided to axe the plan because they need the revenue from cigarette sales to fund tax cuts. Health experts are not impressed, saying the decision is “extremely disappointing” and will cost thousands of lives.
