Google has released a major update to its Authenticator app, which is 12 years old, for Android and iOS.
The update includes a cloud synchronization option which allows users to back up their time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) codes.
This eliminates the hassle of switching between phones and prevents users from losing access if their device is lost.
The feature is optional, and users should keep in mind the potential risks of cloud backups.
This update comes shortly after Proton released an end-to-end encrypted password manager solution.
