Chromebooks get new privacy features with camera and mic switch

Google is introducing new system wide camera and microphone access toggles in ChromeOS settings that will block all apps and sites from using them.

This is a software-based solution that replaces physical camera and mic kill switches on PC laptops.

The new Privacy Controls panel will be found in Settings then Security and Privacy and will be available in an unspecified future software update.

Google is also expanding enterprise and business-oriented security features, such as identity and data control, that help IT departments manage user logins and keep sensitive information secure.

They are working with popular third-party enterprise management and security companies to give IT departments the ability to better integrate Chromebooks within their environments.
