Apple and Google Join Forces to Stop Unauthorized Location-Tracking

Apple and Google have teamed up to develop a specification for Bluetooth location-tracking devices.

The goal is to standardize the alerting mechanisms and minimize opportunities for misuse across Bluetooth location tracking devices.

In doing so, they will make devices that support the new technology compatible with any unauthorized tracking detection and alerts across Android and iOS platforms, the companies said in a joint statement.

Apple and Google announce that they’ve developed a new industry-wide specification for detecting and alerting users to when they are being tracked without their permission using AirTags.

The first-of-its-kind specification will allow Bluetooth location trackers devices to be compatible with unauthorized tracking Detection and Alerting capabilities, including those that can detect and alert to unauthorized tracking.
