A massive prehistoric cemetery has been discovered in Lapland, just south of the Arctic Circle. This discovery is challenging what we know about how far Stone Age societies trekked into the bitterly cold, far-flung stretches of Northern Europe. The 6,500-year-old site could be one of the largest Stone Age cemeteries in northern Europe. But it wasn’t until recently that archaeologists started paying attention to it. That’s because the workers who first found the site just reported a few stone artifacts to local authorities. Now, new soil samples could be analyzed for fossilized hair, which has been found in Stone Age graves in recent years. So, who knows what we might learn about these ancient people? Maybe they were just big fans of camping in the snow.
