A Google AI language model is now making descriptions for YouTube Shorts

This week, DeepMind officially combined its artificial intelligence team into one big AI team, and on Wednesday, the new Google DeepMind shared details on how one of its visual language models, Flamingo, is being used to generate descriptions for YouTube shorts.

Shorts are short videos that are created in a few minutes and often don’t include descriptions and helpful titles, which makes them harder to find through search.

FlamingO can make those descriptions by analyzing the initial frames of a video to explain what’s going on.

Sherman says that this Flamingos model the ability to understand these videos and provide us descriptive text — is just really so valuable for helping our systems that are already looking for this metadata,โ€ Sherman says.

Any serious mistakes from Flamingou could be hurtful to creators and open Google up to significant criticism
