Chefs say you should wash rice to reduce starch and make it less sticky. But a new study shows that’s not true. The type of rice, not washing, is what makes it sticky.
You should still wash your rice though. It removes dust, bugs, and bits of husk. And it rinses off microplastics.
But don’t wash it too much. That washes away nutrients.
And don’t worry about washing rice to kill bacteria. Cooking will kill all the bacteria.
Just don’t keep cooked rice at room temperature for too long. That can activate bacterial spores and make you sick.
