Why does gravity pull us down and not up? It’s because the Earth is like a giant trampoline and everything with mass is like a bowling ball. When you put a bowling ball on a trampoline, it makes a dip in the trampoline. That dip is called a gravity well. And if you put a marble on the trampoline, it will roll down the dip and hit the bowling ball. That’s gravity! And it’s why you can’t jump off the Earth and float away into space. Because the Earth is a really big gravity well.
