You Won’t Believe How Old The Oldest City In The World Is!

#shorts #inhabited city #BCE #Jericho #humans Y’all, it’s hard to say for sure which city is the oldest in the world, ’cause people have been living in places for a long time. But there are a few contenders, like Jericho, which is famous for an infamous war in the Old Testament that probably didnโ€™t happen. And then there’s Damascus, which was previously considered the undisputed champion for oldest city, with archaeological remains indicating that humans had been there as early as 9,000 BCE. But now, new research suggests that a city located 130 kilometers (80 miles) southwest of the modern capital Cairo might be even older. Pottery and structures near the city suggest humans had been there since approximately 5,500 BCE, making it the oldest city in Egypt and one of the oldest settlements in Africa. So there you have it, folks: the oldest city in the world is…still up for debate!
