Microsoft is exploring the concept of a Windows handheld mode for devices like the Steam Deck. An internal hackathon project from September has resulted in a prototype Windows 11 UI for handhelds, a launcher, and a gaming shell customized for Windows. This project includes a launcher to quickly launch games from different stores, as well as a call to action for Microsoft employees to get serious about handheld gaming on Windows. Though this project may never ship, it is encouraging to see Microsoft employees pushing for it.
