In January, WhatsApp officially launched support for proxy servers.
This allows users to bypass government-imposed censorship and internet shutdowns by adding a proxy address to their WhatsApp accounts.
Internet shutdowns have been increasingly common across the world during times of crises, conflicts, communal violence, and to prevent cheating in examinations.
Authorities in 35 countries had instituted internet shuttingdowns at least 187 times in 2022, and the number has already reached 80 in the first five months of 2023.users may search for trusted accounts on social media that regularly post verified proxy addresses, which they can then add to their Whatsapp accounts.
According to a press release, this figure will likely rise further in the next five months as the war in Afghanistan breaks out again.
