VMware has released updates to address multiple security vulnerabilities in its Workstation and Fusion software, the most serious of which could enable a local attacker to gain code execution.
The flaws were demonstrated by researchers at the Pwn2Own hacking contest and include stack-based buffer-overflow, out-of-bounds read, local privilege escalation and out-of-bounds read/write vulnerabilities.
As a temporary workaround, VMware is suggesting that users turn off Bluetooth support and remove CD/DVD devices from the virtual machine.
The affected versions are Workstation 17.0.2 and Fusion 13.0.2.
