Everybody, Uranus is making its closest approach to Earth this year, so get ready for a great view of the big ol’ gas giant. Just kidding, it’s still gonna be pretty far away, but with a telescope you should be able to see it. And if you have the right equipment, you might even be able to glimpse its rings. But don’t get too excited, Uranus has had a rough time in its life. It got its unusual tilt from a “colossal pounding” by a planet roughly twice as massive as Earth, so it’s not exactly the prettiest planet out there. But hey, it’s still our neighbor, so let’s show it some love. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll be able to send a probe to Uranus and learn more about this strange and wonderful world.
