Three Quarks for Muster Mark, The Science of Quantum Physics

There are six varieties of quarks, including one called the strange one, which is strange.

However, in the world of the very small, quantum physics reigns, many things are strange, and perhaps charm quarks are stranger still.

Last year, they were found to flaunt their weight by being a component of protons, despite being heavier than the proton itself.

This leads to a truly mind-bending claim last year.

The charm quark prevented particle decays predicted by the three-quark theory, which can look evil to a particle physicist when the timing is bad enough.

Back in the early days of the scientific community, it was thought that a fourth quark would be required to explain the behavior of the weak electric force.

Sheldon Glashow and James Bjorken proposed this fourth quck, later named it the charm quark, after the radioactive substance that gives off electricity.
