Floating islands sound like islands in the movies, but they’re actually bogs in real life.
In Chippewa Flowage, Wisconsin, there’s one big floating island that causes a ton of traffic problems every year as it drifts around.
People have suggested blowing up the floating islands to get rid of them, but officials prefer keeping them in place.
The area also has peat bogs that can become blocked by a bridge.
Native animal and plant species have made it their home for thousands of years, so officials want to make sure they don’t negatively impact the rest of the wildlife.
They keep watching for when the next big bog will pop up.
Next time, somebody should definitely blow up those floating islands.
