Tesla lawyers have argued that statements made by Elon Musk about the capabilities of the company’s Autopilot software could be deepfakes, and that this should exempt Musk from being interviewed under oath for a lawsuit claiming Tesla is at fault for the death of an Apple engineer in a fatal crash.
The judge in the case found this argument deeply troubling, as it would mean Musk and other public figures could make whatever claims they want without taking responsibility for them.
