14-year-old Heman Bekele won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge for inventing a bar of soap that helps treat melanoma skin cancer. His Melanoma Treating Soap fuses medicinal soap with a mixture of acids that combat cancer cells. Bekele hopes to further develop the inexpensive soap and distribute it through a non-profit over the next 5 years. He was awarded $25,000 for being named America’s Top Young Scientist.
