Although commonly thought of as a berry, strawberries are not berries at all. They are aggregate fruits, which means they are made up of a number of smaller fruits grouped together. The tiny white dots on a strawberry are actually the plant’s fruit, called achenes. True berries have more than one seed, while strawberries only have one seed per achene. Grapefruits and pumpkins are also technically berries, while bananas and watermelons are classified as drupes.
