If we’re looking for planets with plate tectonics, astronomers should look at Earth-like planets because it’s the only planet that has it.
They can use chemical makeup of the host stars to predict whether the planets have got plate tectonic plates on them.
In other words, these planets need to have a solid basis in order to be suitable for life.
A new study by Professor of Astronomy at Cardiff University, Jane Greaves, hints at ways to find planets with this kind of plate tection.
