Pink diamonds formed at the bottom of the Earth’s lithosphere

A new study has discovered the secret to making rare pink diamonds.

Yes, really.

That’s right, scientists have been looking for it.

Pink diamonds are so rare they’re hard to find.

But now scientists have figured out how to make them.

Pink diamonds are made by distortion, which is one of three main ways a diamond can end up with imperfections.

Distortion occurs when the lattice structure of a diamond gets twisted and bent, altering the way light is reflected so that it doesn’t appear white.

This process needed to take place in order for pink diamonds to appear near the surface may make it easier to find in the future.
