The supercontinent that will end all mammals?
New research suggests that in about 250 million years, the existing continents will collide to form a supercontamerica, Pangea Ultima, which will make Earth inhospitable to land-based mammals and likely lead to a mass extinction.
The authors claim that these changes will be accompanied by massive hyperthermal events akin to the Permian-Triassic event, the largest and most severe extinction event the Earth has ever experienced.
No more mammals?
Greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activity are pushing our climate to extremes that have not been experienced in millions of years.
