Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was fired because he wasn’t “candid” with the board. It turns out he was working on a side hustle to start a chip company that would compete with Nvidia. He was also working on a secret AI hardware project with Jony Ive. The board was worried that this would disrupt their plans to sell their shares at an $86 billion valuation. Also, Altman’s co-founder, Ilya Sutskever, felt that OpenAI was not paying enough attention to safety standards. So, Altman was fired. But Sutskever has now backtracked and said he regrets his decision.
