A corpse in Bulgaria has been found in the stage of complete mummification just 16 days after last being seen alive.
The police later confirmed the body to be that of a 34-year-old man with a history of alcoholism.
The scientists are baffled by the speed at which the body has degraded.
They note that the skin was brown, leathery, and hard, but otherwise appeared healthy.
The internal examination showed that the internal organs had decayed into dried, brownish-black masses.
The study is published in the journal Cureus.
