Good evening, I’m Amy. In business news this week, Microsoft completed its massive $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The deal makes Microsoft one of the biggest names in gaming, adding popular franchises like Call of Duty and Candy Crush to its portfolio. Regulators tried to block it over monopoly concerns, but gave in after Microsoft promised rival Ubisoft they could keep making Activision games too. Activision has faced controversies including sexual harassment allegations, but outgoing CEO Bobby Kotick will stick around through 2023 to help with the transition. I guess when you pay almost $70 billion for a company, you want to make sure your new toys don’t come broken. Microsoft says their next big purchase will be the state of Rhode Island.
