Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, is in hot water over its handling of child safety on its platform. Meta recently said that it doesn’t want to be the main player in controlling what kids see online. Instead, Meta wants app stores to implement age controls and parental consent requirements.
This is a pretty lame excuse, because Meta is perfectly capable of implementing these controls itself. But the company is probably just trying to avoid responsibility. After all, Meta has a long history of making mistakes when it comes to child safety.
So, here’s a message to Meta: If you don’t want to be responsible for protecting kids, then maybe you shouldn’t be in the business of making social media for kids.
