A U.K. national has pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and fraud in the U.S. Department of Justice’s indictment of four individuals who allegedly perpetrated a July 2020 Twitter hack.
The DoJ says that Patrick O’Connor bought access to one Twitter account for $10,000 and that a portion of the stolen cryptocurrency was deposited into a cryptocurrency exchange account controlled by O’ Connor.
Three other conspirators were also charged with carrying out the attack.
According to the DoJ, they laundered it through dozens of transfers and transactions and exchanged some of it for Bitcoin using cryptocurrency exchange services, the department says.
It adds that a portion of th ereportion of the recovered cryptocurrency was invested into a currency exchange account owned by O’Connor
