LockBit ransomware-as-a-service companies have rorted more than $91 million from U.S. organizations since the beginning of 2020.
The company’s latest ransomware, LockBit Green, is based on code from the now-disbanded Conti gang and uses patented technology such as a beachhead –a self-execute mechanism that allows attackers to execute their ransomware on an organization’s BIOS before it boots up.
The developments also follow an advisory highlighting threats to base-board management controller (BMC) implementations that could potentially enable threat actors to establish a pre-boot execution potential.
Ransomware vendor Trend Micro unveils a new ransomware called Lockbit Red, which it says has already caused at least 1,653 ransomware attacks to date.
