Judge Lewis Kaplan rejects a plea from Sam Bankman-Fried’s legal team to release him ahead of his upcoming trial.
The judge argues that there is not enough evidence against him and that he has ample time to review case materials in an air-gapped, internet-connected laptop during the 7-ยฝ months between his indictment and the revocation of bail.
The trial is scheduled to commence on October 3.
Since the exchange collapsed in November 2022, four former executives have pled guilty to various forms of fraud.
FTX’s bankruptcy team is now considering plans to relaunch the exchange, presenting creditors with an option to hold equity securities, tokens, or other interests in the newly launched firm.
