Iowa School District Uses ChatGPT to Ban Books

Using ChatGPT’s guidance, the Mason City Community School District removed 19 titles, including Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Toni Morrison’s Beloved from its library shelves.

For bookworms, this story is bad news.

It turns out that using chatGPT to help remove library books can be blood boiling .

For non-bookworms, it’s great news.

Here are some more examples of what got pulled off the banned list:The Bible does contain passages that address sexual topics and relationships, but it generally avoids explicit descriptions of sexual acts, according to ChatG PT.

(Note: The Bible isn’t on the list of 19 books that got banned, but you can see how quickly this can get confusing.

When I relate this story to Exman, she says she got similar answers, whereChatGPT would say a book had sexual depictions but then give context.
