This just in: Instagram is handing over more control to rein in its pervasive web tracking. Niamhovich reports the app will now let you stop Meta from monitoring your activity across websites and apps to serve personalized ads. Until now, only Facebook offered this opt-out feature called Off-Facebook Activity. Critics argue Meta’s tracking is too vast and opaque. Users can now view which businesses share data with Meta and disconnect it source by source. Jostovich says the move comes amid growing demand for privacy limits on ad targeting. While it’s a small step, he notes it gives Instagrammers more say in how their data gets exploited.
