In California, there’s an impressive giant redwood tree called Hyperion.
It’s also the tallest living thing in the world.
According to science, it’s even taller than the Statue of Liberty.
Despite this fact, though, hordes of visitors continue to flock to the tree, so the National Park Service has closed the area around it to prevent further damage to the surrounding ferns and vegetation.
Why?
To protect the health of the trees and to protect visitor welfare.
As you might imagine, trash and human waste are now littering the trail pathways.
Also, if anyone were to get hurt in the woods, it would be a while before help could arrive.
