Humpback Whale Rescued From Fishing Line and Crab Pot

A humpback whale got caught in some fishing line and was dragging two buoys and a crab pot. A team of whale rescue experts used drones and special tools to free the whale. The whale swam away safely and the team is monitoring it to make sure it’s okay. Scientists say that 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the oceans every year, and lost and abandoned fishing equipment make up the majority of the plastic in the ocean. So if you see a whale in trouble, don’t try to help it yourself. Just call the relevant local authority, NOAA’s whale entanglement hotline, or a local coastguard.
