New research shows that a new technique for flossing teeth is better than traditional fluffing methods because it removes more plaque from the gums.
It’s called AHVFT and it involves moving the toothbrush back and forth slightly up into the gum and pushing it away from the teeth.
Plaque removal is very important in this area because it can cause infection, swelling, redness, and bleeding if not removed promptly.
In the new study, non-smoking adults were enrolled in a trial to determine whether AHVFT was effective at reducing gum bleeding.
After eight weeks, the results showed that those who used the technique had a 70 percent reduction in gum bleeding and the other group saw only a 30 percent reduction.
The study is published in the Journal Of Dental Hygiene.
