Hackers Exploit Windows Tool to Deploy Crypto-Mining Malware Cisco Talos Intelligence Group has discovered that hackers have exploited a popular Windows-based software packaging tool to infect computers with crypto mining malware.
The mining attack on the computers happens through a Windows utility called Advanced Installer.
Once infected, the computers start running the M3_MiniRat tool, which allows attackers to download and run the Ethereum malware miner PhoenixMiner and the multi-coin mining malware lolMiner.
In addition, the malicious code can be bundled with other malicious software from Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk 3ds Max and SketchUp Pro.
This makes it very easy for criminals to mine cryptocurrencies using these tools.
