Now, they have identified a subtype of avian influenza that is currently undergoing changes that could increase the risk of transmission to humans.
Bird flu has many strains, but the H3N8 avion influenza virus AIV is endemic in poultry farms in China.
It is also a zoonotic virus, which means that it can be passed on to people.
To date, there have only been three cases of an avian H3n8 virus infection in humans-two confirmed in 2022, two confirmed in 2023, and unfortunately, a fatal case in twenty23.
However, the trend continues, and more human cases may occur in the future.
