By default, all messages in the Messages app will be end-to-end encrypted by default.
That includes one-on-one messages.
This is a big step for RCS, which promises to make messages private from both Google and carriers.
Alongside Tuesday’s announcement, Google also announces that group chats in Messages are now end-encrypted as well.
For a long time, iMessage had the edge over Google on terms of encryption across all chats, so it’s nice that Google Messages finally offers parity on that front.
Google first started rolling out full-febrile encryption for groups in Messenger in late 2020.
Now it’s rolling out encryption for individual messages in late 2019.
Here’s hoping this goes well.
