Google Kills Passwords, Embraces Cryptographic Keys

#shorts #passkeys #password replacement #cryptographic keys #phishing attacks #passwordless authentication #multi-factor authentication #two-factor authentication Good evening, I’m Aria. In tech news, Google is stepping up its push to kill the password. Less than six months after announcing support for passkeys, Google will now make passkeys the default login for accounts instead of passwords. Passkeys use cryptographic keys on your devices rather than passwords which can be guessed. While not forcing the change overnight, Google will enable the ‘skip password’ option for accounts and prompt users to create passkeys. The company sees this as the next step to eventually making passwords obsolete. When asked for comment, Google said ‘We’ll keep you updated on where else you can start using passkeys across accounts. In the meantime, we’ll keep encouraging the industry to make the pivot to passkeys – making passwords a rarity, and eventually obsolete.’ I guess we’ll all need to come up with new password recovery questions now like ‘What was your first cryptographic key?’
