Google has reportedly abandoned its Project Iris augmented reality glasses.

In January, we revealed that Google was working on an AR headset.

Called Project Iris, it would have been the company’s bet against the likes of Meta and Apple.

Now, Business Insider is reporting that the company has killed off the project.

Project Iris was plagued by layoffs and shifting strategies during development, and Google’s head of VR/AR Clay Bavor notably left the company four months ago.

It wouldn’t be the first time Samsung and Google collaborated on a device; apparently, the company didn’t want to build its own technology unless it could produce a cutting-edge gadget that it was too proud to call its own.

Original plans had been to ship the AR headset in 2024, but now it appears they won’t be making it.
