Google blocked 1.43 million bad apps from being published to the Play Store in 2022 by introducing improved security features and app review processes.
This included banning 173,000 bad accounts and preventing over $2 billion in fraudulent and abusive transactions.
Google also implemented identity verification methods such as phone number and email address to join Google Play, which resulted in a reduction in accounts used to publish malicious apps.
Cybercriminals are still finding ways to publish malicious and adware apps, and Google has enacted a new data deletion policy to strengthen security.
Additionally, users should enable two-factor authentication, scrutinize app permissions, secure devices with a password, and avoid leaving them unattended in public places to protect themselves from threats.
