Erectile Dysfunction in Astronauts

#shorts #male rats #erectile dysfunction #increased radiation #sexual health It turns out that space travel can really mess with your junk. A new study found that astronauts who go to space are at risk of erectile dysfunction due to microgravity and radiation exposure. Researchers at Florida State University simulated the effects of microgravity on a group of rats by lifting their hind legs at a 30-degree angle for four weeks. They found that the rats who were exposed to microgravity had more oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in the tissues around their penises. The rats were also exposed to galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) and the researchers found that the rats who were exposed to GCRs had even more erectile dysfunction than the rats who were only exposed to microgravity. The study’s findings suggest that astronauts who go to space are at risk of erectile dysfunction, but the researchers believe that this could be alleviated by taking antioxidants.
