Earth’s Core is Getting Wet!

#shorts #water #outer core #kilometers #mantle Scientists have discovered that the reason there’s a thin layer around the molten metal of the outer core of the Earth is because of water from the surface. Yep, you heard that right. Scientists now believe that H2O is the culprit behind that differentiation. The water isn’t just dripping down a hole, it’s being carried down by descending tectonic plates and eventually reaches the core after a journey of 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles). The process is slow, but over billions of years, water from the surface has altered the edge between the bottom of the mantle and the top of the core.
