Turns out it might not have been built by humans at all. Scientists think it coulda been shaped by the wind! That’s right, the wind. Well, scientists say that there are these things called yardangs that are formed by wind erosion. They look a lot like the Sphinx, so they think maybe the Sphinx is just a really big yardang. And if that’s true, then that means the ancient Egyptians didn’t have to do anything! They just found a big ol’ yardang in the desert and said, “That’s a cool-looking rock. Let’s call it the Sphinx.” So, there you have it. The Great Sphinx of Giza, one of the wonders of the world, might just be a big ol’ rock that the wind blew into shape. Who knew?
