By the end of the year, Messenger will support end-to-end encryption by default.
Previously, the company has said that it plans to roll out support for E2EE by default for chats on Messenger by late this year.
The company explains that its Messenger and Instagram DMs were originally designed to function via servers, hence it took longer than expected to transition all messages to E2E.Meta further notes that it rebuilt over 100 features in Messenger, including sharing links to external sites like YouTube without breaking encryption safeguards.
As we continue to increase the scale of our tests, and prepare to test the upgraded service, people will need to update their app to a recent build to access default E 2EE, Timothy Buck, product manager for Messenger, said
