Cybercrime Group Targets BPO Sector with Advanced Social Engineering

A new threat actor named Muddled Libra is terrorizing the BPO industry with persistent attacks that leverage advanced social engineering ploys to gain initial access.

According to the threat researchers at Unit 42, this includes using the 0ktapus phishing kit but does not rely on it alone.

Instead, he uses techniques such as reverse-phishing.

Should this strategy fail, he says, his actors contact the organization’s help desk posing as the victim and ask to be allowed to enroll in a new MFA device under their control.

At the intersection of devious social engineering and nimble technology adaptation stands Muddled LIBra, the researchers say.

They call him Muddle Libra because of the confusion caused by the confusing muddled landscape associated with the 0ktarphishing kit.
