Cryptocurrency Laundering Scandal: Tornado Cash Founders Charged

Tornado Cash processed over $7 billion worth of crypto assets over a period of three years.

Roman Storm and Roman Semenov allegedly operated Tornado Cash and knowingly facilitated this money laundering, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said.

The defendants have been identified as two of the three co-founders of the company; Alexey Pertsev was apprehended in the Netherlands and is awaiting trial on money laundering allegations.

Furthermore, the company did not implement effective Know Your Customer (KYC) or anti-money laundering programs as required by law, according to the government’s information.

According to prosecutors, Tornado Cash is said to have failed to implement effective Know your customer (KYK) or Anti-money Laundering Programs as Required by Law.
