Fortnite creator Epic Games cuts 16% of its workforce, or 830 employees, as it seeks to reduce its costs and create a a viable financial ecosystem for the company.โ
The company has been spending way more money than it earns, investing in the next evolution of Epic and growing Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators.
However, this has also led to narrower profit margins, impacting Epic’s ability to sustain its workforce due to the comparatively lower earnings from the creator content revenue-sharing model.
Epic sells off several businesses and lays off 250 more employees.
To support affected employees, Epic offers them six months of free paid healthcare and supports them with donations.
